Web Site Content Guide

Carefully plan and research the content of your website

Content is the most important part than your web site. More so than it's appearance. It's your content that will attract visitors and motivate them to come back. It's in your content that you must include keywords specific to your products, services and projects that search engine (like Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc) can pick up to bring traffic to your site.  Below are guides of types of content that should be included in the different sections of your web site. Be advised though that those are just suggestions based on general standard used for website creation. Content as well structure should be customized for each website.

Disclaimer:
While we will work with you in organizing the content for your website, we will not write it entirely from scratch especially when it comes to specific of your organization's (e.g. mission statement, services or products or project description, etc.). CONTENT GUIDE FOR HOME/MAIN PAGE

In this section you will write an introductory paragraph about your web site. This is like the front door to your home on the Internet. Invite visitors to step in and have a look around. Useful information that can be included on a home page are the mission statement for your organization, and/or a quick company profile.

MISSION: Write one or two short sentences that describe your company's philosophy and ambitions. Something like, 'To become the leading provider of ...'.

COMPANY PROFILE: Describe who you are, and how you provide value to your customers or provide something that is unique. If you belong to any industry associations, list them here. What do other people say about your company? Try using some quotes from satisfied customers. Who are the people in your company? You might want to include a message from the owner, top manager or a brief version of their biographies.

CONTENT GUIDE FOR PRODUCTS/SERVICE PAGE

In this section you will post information about the products you sell, or the services you offer, or the projects you lead, etc.. If you have many products, or services, or projects, it is highly recommended that this page become a main section where you write a brief overview of the products/services/projects provided. Then it can be categorized  in any order that is the most logical for the site visitor, an linked to individual pages (sub pages)  for each for more detailed description and/or features. Optional images can be added as well.

CONTENT FOR CONTACT/FEEDBACK PAGE

In this section you will post news and/or update about your company or website. Contact information may include some or all of the following:

  • Full Name of Company
  • Full Postal Address
  • Telephone
  • Fax number
  • Contact email
  • Name of contact person

This section may also include a feedback form so that visitors can readily submit request or comments online. Form submission will generate a confirmation page so that visitors know their submission went through.  Unless configured otherwise, form submissions are usually sent to a designated email address. The site owner must ensure that this email address is regularly monitored.

CONTENT GUIDE FOR SITE INDEX OR SITEMAP

This section is plainly a table of contents where all major sections of your web site are listed (preferably in categories and sub pages) to provide site visitors another handy and perhaps quicker way  to navigate your web site than established navigation and/or menus.

In this section you can include links to other useful other websites. If you have many links to share however it is recommended that you set an individual pages as resources for link pages for your visitors

CONTENT GUIDE FOR PRIVACY POLICY AND TERMS OF SERVICES/USES

If you are selling a product and/or service through your website you MUST have a privacy policy and terms of services readily accessible by site visitors. This is inform them on how you will protect their privacy while they conduct transaction with you. This is also to inform  them about your established rules about selling your services and/or products to customers. The Privacy Policy and Terms of Services pages can be combined or set as individual pages depending on size of content.

CONTENT FOR COMPANY NEWS OR SITE UPDATES

In this optional section you can post any press release, site update, product and/or services news of your company. You could also post articles with information and/or commentaries about your products and field of your website. This section can be in a blog format, to facilitate chronologic posting and even comments by visitor.
